Science: If you love science, you are in for a treat.
First stop is Discover Place, where you can see animatronic dinosaurs
and science displays. Most of the
items there are very kid-friendly, and most are even hands-on. The
crown gem of this wonderful science
resource is the Omnimax theater, used as a planetarium, but is also
an incredible theater-in-the-round that
is stories high and viewable in 360degrees. At the time of writing,
there is a special on swimming with
dolphins that places you alongside of these amazing animals in their
own natural environment. Discovery
Place is also an award-winning environmental and nature center. Link

The Discover Place is affiliated with the Charlotte
Arts & Science Council.
Your next stop is the Charlotte Historic Aviation Commisions. This
is a combo museum-hanger featuring airplanes in various stages of
restoration. They have everything from old civilian to rare military
aircraft. Located 15 minutes from Uptown at Charlotte/Douglas International
Airport, it is pretty easy to find. 704-239-8442. Link HERE
The Energy Explorium is pretty cool. It includes hands-on energy
exhibits at a nuclear power facility,
an outdoor picnic facility, and a nature trail along Lake Norman.
Free. 13339 Haggers Ferry Road, Huntersville NC, 800-777-0003 or locally
at 704-875-5600. Link HERE.
